Some music notes get corrupt after the song repeats in this rip. It might not match another intro I have, but does it match the source (Mini Putt?)
|
|
I really miss the old times back then. Call me nostalgic bastard... but i had so much fun and adventures! :)
This is a true classic memory in my book of scene history! :]

Wish we would have made better .nfo files back in the day and current groups would include intro screens even if they are loaders that could be added to a catalog (placed in single file for history/20 years from now)...
Keep safe old friends, if your coming to Las Vegas contact me and we will get a drink.

@Hewitson, just like FM radios hammering songs to make "hit music".
Great music and basic overrated intro, but people saw it so many times, they started to love it.
That's what large audience is.
That said, ESI is C64 fame, like Triad, Fairlight, Ikari, ...
|
|
Iconic!
|
|
Yea... there was a version of this with the basic CMB 1x1 charset, the 2x2 (?) that you see here. Also I think I've seen one used that didnt have the scrolling gray scale on the text scroll. The black pull-down of the screen wasn't used in a certain version either if I remember correctly. So long ago.

Good times. I miss those days. I use to run a commie BBS that was netowrked with 17 other boards. My node was never free. Use to Download all the zero day warez in the UK and post them here in Ontario Canada as well as some of the zero day stuff from Cali. Those ESI are hallmark. all those AT commands are starting to flash back and even some of the phreaking methods to avoid th LD charges BAHAHAHA. those days are gone. Kids dont have a clue what they missed out on. Cheers all..

While the ESI cracks were among the best, I cannot understand all the praise for the intro. It's one of the most boring and basic intros anyone's ever done.

664 FREE..Lighthouse was ATC HQ i called it a lot on 9500488+1+areacode+# hahah
I remember Italian Stallion 1670 Phreak Software was used to hack all the 950,800 codes to call 0-Day Warez.
Best BBS i can remember was Lions Den 516 (Long Island)

@37 now, those days were the best years of my life. Thank you ESI UCF TSC TRIAD FBR ETC.. for the memories. I used to download via phreaking just for the damn intro's and intro music. Fuck I wish things were the same. the digital millennium act signed by dick head a fucked us all. I still have the damn bbs phone numbers embedded in my head 313-743-2209 (lighthouse) 619-461-9152 (i forgot name) CCGMS was my client! atdt *82,,6194619152 LOL!!!

Bacchus I respect you a lot, but I cannot think of anything more BORING than cracking Freeload, Cyberload, and Novaload over and over and over ;)
Mitch did it all, Fat Tracks, Pirate Busters/Slayer, Prodos, V-Max (give Fight Night a try!), Rapidlok, Para-Protect, XEMAG, Keydos, all of it... quite an achievement with no silly freezer carts to help you out. Only ROM disassemblies, a monitor, maybe some homemade hardware (like drive ram expansion and an NMI switch), and MAD SKILLS!
|
|
the picture is marvellous, the intro a classic, was even ported to SNES (by Censor?)
some music used:
Footballer of the Year/Ben Daglish
Bulldog/Ben Daglish
R1D1/Antony Crowther
Future Knight/Ben Daglish (e.g. on The Train)
Zig Zag/Antony Crowther
|
|
I like the HandyTerm 8.6 intro the best.. Hmodem was so much faster than the others and gave us eye candy during those 1200/2400 baud transfers.
Where is the best place 2 find everyone? with torrents anyone can gain access to the new releases.

As i grew up in the 80s we all had C64 with lots of games at home, cracked by ESI, Triad, Pappillon, Dynamic Duo, etc. And to be honest, when i'm looking back, i still get "goosebumps". It was such an exciting time for all of us. All groups were heroes for us, cause they allowed us to have and play games that we never could bought us. I say "thank you" for all your good work, time and effort. We had a great time.

I have to comment this piece:
"I actually can not recall any crappy game cracked by Eaglesoft "
As cracker you took on what was ahead of you. I never turned done a quality release (where I as a cracker did a job I was proud of) as it was a game I personally hated. Who was I to judge if people would like the games?
I guess most of you who love this intro are Americans.
ESI cracked mainly EA games, and it seemed the Multi-disc stuff such as Bard's Tale were both released first in the US but were also bigger over there. On this side we were more into action games.
On the crack PiraSlayer Boot was a nightmare ... once! having done it once, it wasn't so hard the second time around. I still respect ESI and still love the class of the into, but cracking the same PSB protection over and over again still isn't THAT impressive...
(Was that a flame for you guys? ;-)

ESI rocked with the newest Microprose and other complex awesome C64 warez. I always knew I had quality when I saw that eagle with a disk in his mouth!

|
Classic - but they where definately wrong demos. Even their "crappy" intro survived their warez/releases. Who gives a f*ck about Mini Putt these days ;-)

I'm not so sure Lady Hawk was a member of ESI. I know she did a screen or two for them, but when Gunship was released (a screen in which she credits herself) she was in Thee Supreme Council.
Since Lady Hawk is never mentioned in a ESI scroller as a member (AFAIK), I'm willing to bet that she did the screens freelance.
|
|
The person who did the graphics for this and the other "eagle" intro (and the "prism" intro also) was Lady Hawk.
Lady Hawk was not the only female member of ESI, also Scorpio (Carol) is too.

As far as I remember great artwork for that state of time! Always enjoyed the eagle-warez...

best eagle intro track:
Mounty Mick's Deathride [Ben Daglish] 1/1 (1987 Gremlin Graphics) :)

I'm still tryin' to rip that Super Cycle intro! Why is it so hard to rip? The Sky Fox 2 intro and the Ikari Warriors intro (NEPA diss) still need to added also!

I think there were about 3 variations on this intro. I dont mean different music either. Something with the charset and the color scheme.

Never really liked their intro's much, but ESI is a milestone (somehow) in the long c64 history.. ;)
|
|
One more memorable thing was that the music ran too slowly on PAL 'cause this was an NTSC intro.
|
|
The first version of this intro only featured a 1x1 CBM font with no colours / sprites. And yes, Crest made a modern remake of this famous intro.
