I understand the bytes saved on default the font, but other than the font, it's just the logo that consumes some bytes so for most cracks a cute font would have been reasonable imo...

Well... Why not enlighten you:
I was just teaching myself 6502 in kickasm, wrote a couple of intro-ish things, you know, scrollers, logo swingers, rasters etc. Logical step for me was to code a tech-tech, just for the sake of it. When almost finished that thing, the Shadow asked me to join Avatar, I showed him my work so far, he liked it.
We were both aware of the memory size (y would a coder not be?) the copied charsets took, but we can still use the intro for loads of stuff, especially ice-out's small games.
The charsets are copied on runtime, so it's not that much on disk either.

Not sure why I felt the need to explain it, but well, here ya go anyway.
